In preparation for his role as an ex-con in Cape Fear, Robert De Niro needed to trade in his signature New York accent for an Appalachian dialect. We reviewed videotapes of Appalachian inmates in Southern prisons, and determined the exact dialect DeNiro was aiming for. After over four months of rigorous daily practice, DeNiro perfected his character’s speech and was nominated for an Academy Award. Adriana Lima, a Brazilian model with a Portuguese accent, best known for her Victoria's Secret ads, wanted to become a spokesperson for the Victoria’s Secret brand. By working directly with the scripts as well as our exclusive list of 100 most commonly used English words, we helped prepare her for the role. Adriana has since been featured in Victoria's Secret: What is Sexy?, and other spokesperson spots. When W.M., a high-level executive, transferred to this country from Munich to take over his company’s American division, he found he was having trouble impacting his audience during his many public speaking engagements. He attributed his failure to communicate to his heavy accent and lack of knowledge of American slang and idioms. Using his own office communications to determine the typical things he said during his workday, we developed exercises for American expressions specific to his profession and lists of commonly used idioms which would fit well into the subjects he was discussing. We improved his intelligibility in American English speech, enhanced his vocabulary and worked on English grammatical skills. His public speaking skills were so improved that not only were his speaking engagements well-received, he also received return invitations from the hosts. He retains his position as CEO and is much more comfortable and effective here in the States. Clients:(Click for more information)
